When interviewed by artistic editor Emma Smith about the inspiration behind his work, Elijah responded with...

"My work will always play off my own experiences in life, my most recent work, and the one on display, is all about my personal identity and how I'm dealing with being in transgender in such a hateful world. The world will always be out to get people like me and that will always take a negative toll on mental health but being able to push through it is key. I've always struggled with the concept of being forgotten and what my purpose on this earth is and my art will always be a source of comfort for me.
I will always be inspired by different forms of media, most of the time it will be music, but my personal work is constantly inspired by my writing and my games of dungeons and dragons. Whenever I play games, watch films, listen to music, I will always put myself in the shoes of certain characters that I relate to and that will often fuel my creations. Inspiration is a huge tool in the creative industry as long as you aren't actively stealing others work directly, never feel ashamed to use your favourite works as a stepping stool to create your own ideas."

When speaking with Poppy, she explained how her piece was greatly inspired by identity and the differences in expression between each person. This was further explored through her grandfather's identity and memories were distorted through his struggles with Alzheimer's disease, including the wider impact on the family's identity also; using fashion as a medium to allow for a personal and unique artistic expression. The overall message of her piece was to convey the loss of memory and identity, creating awareness for the devastating condition.
